The research project TEO concentrates on developing and exploiting an oral data-processing programme. The goals of TEO are the developement
of a user interface for children to create speech-documents, the exploitation and integration of this tool for language learning and to make a study on the
influence of computers in education.
The childern are working with TEO by digitally recording their voices by means of microphones. Each recording is visually presented on the screen by an icon.
The children can add small texts to each icon. Each icon can be moved from its position, it can be replaced or deleted. By recording various texts, the children
are creating a story, that can be stored in order to be reloaded at a later time. Key functions for exploiting the user interfaces of TEO are the usage of the mouse
for the children`s selections, the usage of metaphors for the illustration of the different functions of the programme, the influence of sound on the user interface,
the influence of colours within a user interface, the testing of different methods for working on sound.
