Live Roboter im Internet

Artificial Intelligence Lab, VUB

The research group for autonomous agents of the Free University of Brussels is presently creating an Internet access to the robotic experiments of the Artificial Intelligence Lab, experiments that are taking place in an artificial ecosystem. The link is realised by additional program-moduls to the well-known Cu- SeeMe Videoconferencing Software, which is available in the net for free. To make an oberservation of the experiment possible in real-time, it will not be necessary to install the software. As soon as the software is fully developped, a klick with the mouse will be sufficient. Then, the information flowing through the robots will be visible in the net.

Robot experiments of this kind were put on the plan by the new dynamic approach in artificial intelligence research. The robots are not remote controlled, but are navigating autonomously. It is their goal to recharge themselves with energie at a charging station. Therefore however, they first have to land at different positions. As soon as they have fullfilled this task, the parameters will be changed, so that the robots will f.eg. have to learn to cooperate, in order to be able to fullfill all their tasks as fast as possible, before they are allowed to use the charging stations again. In this way, step by step, the robots are being thaught autonomous, intelligent behaviour.
