Computer Aided Brainstorming? Muser`s Service is a program for daydreaming. It connects two specified concepts through a chain of associations.
Users can have the generated texts reproduced by speech generator, screen or printer. They select the start concept and goal concept, and the methods of networking.
If they want to associate in a specific direction without knowing the precise goal, they can give a vague description in terms of characteristics. Muser`s Service then homes
in on an appropriate goal. The program is supported by an extendable interactive databank. Linguistic expressions, together with their associations, are stored in simple syntax form (object-relation-object). On input, the user`s ideas are classified in relation to the program`s methods of association. The themes of the project are the sensation of thinking (introspection) and the mechanical reproduction of unfamiliar thought patterns. The storage capabilities of computers are used to manage free associative material rather than generating true or false propositions as expert systems do. In that sense the program aims to be a dreamerīs service. Heading towards Computer Aided Brainstorming, the system even "optimizes" the human input by building up connections which nobody has fed in explicitely. |
